I just moved to Indianapolis from Nashville, TN. Home of the Honkey Tonks and country music. Anyways, there is a plethora of amazing day spas and salons in the great Music City. Religiously, I was getting a good ole dermaplaning facial. It was my thing that I didn’t mind paying for because it was so worth it. We’ve got to get the anti-aging train going as we pull up to year 30.
I was afraid Indianapolis wouldn’t come with the day spas that felt like home to me. That was until I walked into Skin Renew Day Spa and Laser Center off of Southport Road. You walk in a client and walk out feeling like family. I’ve recently had so many questions on my first dermaplane here that I have compiled the questions and will tell all about my experience because it is beyond worth sharing. I have also thrown in my own questions that I had for Casey, their AMAZING esthetician. She did the most thorough job you can possibly imagine answering all of my questions. I cannot recommend them enough!
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DERMAPLANING FACIAL?
The dermplane is a manual form of exfoliation that takes away the top layer of the superficial layer of dead skin sitting on the epidermis along with all that sweet peach fuzz. So not only does it remove the Vellus hair, it also exfoliates, tightens and tones the skin for antiaging purposes. It really differs from the Hydrafacial as it actually removes dead layers of skin. Dermaplaning also ignites cell regeneration which will allow any of your facial products to penetrate deeper into the skin. Hello, moisture! Your makeup will also look flawless, Ali approved!
CAN YOU GET A DERMAPLANE FACIAL IF YOU HAVE SEVERE ACNE?
No. Reason being, you don’t want to open the active acne because it will spread. You can, however, if you have a few breakouts because you can work around them.
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A DERMAPLANE FACIAL?
The dermaplane is for anyone who feels like they have dull skin and needs a reset. If you feel like your skin is dry, or you have fine lines, or some acne scaring, dermaplaning is for you! If you are tired of putting on your make-up and it looks “cakey,” then the dermaplane is your new best friend. Your skin will feel like a baby’s bottom in the best way possible.
HOW DOES DERMAPLANING WORK?
When we say the word scalpel, people run. It is not as scary as it sounds. It is almost like going to the barber and getting the best straight razor shave you could ever have. Ask your brother, husband, friend or any male about this. Hi, we like clean faces too, you know! I fell asleep it was so relaxing, plus Casey is really great at being so diligent and gentle that a nap is inevitable. Win/win in my book!
CAN DERMAPLANING BE PERFORMED WITH OTHER SERVICES? IF SO, WHICH ONES?
The dermaplane is highly recommended to be paired with the Hydrafacial, due to the optimum product absorption after the dermaplane. Yes, antioxidants. Yes, please! You will notice with your own products at home that you will be using less. There is no wrong way to do a dermaplane.
HOW FREQUENTLY CAN DERMAPLANING BE DONE?
Once a month (or every four weeks). Once you see that glow in the mirror, you’ll be addicted. Sorry, not sorry. I’m a girls girl, I always share the best things in life.
WILL MY HAIR GROW BACK DARKER OR THICKER AFTER DERMAPLANING?
No. The hair on your face is what is called Vellus hair, “peach fuzz” if you will. They are not removing the hair from the root, therefore, a new hair cannot take its place. It will remain the same color and texture unrelatedly to the amount of times it is removed from the face.
Thanks so very much to Casey and the Skin Renew team for letting me ask so many questions when she is always fully booked! You definitely need Skin Renew in your life. You walk in as a customer and walk out as family. Casey listens to your skin goals and really makes them happen. I never thought I would throw out the foundation, but I did. All this face wears on a daily basis is Eminence Vanilla Latte tinted moisturizer that can be found in our spa! Hello freedom! I’ve never felt more confident in my own skin. Feels so good to say that.
